Although it is commonly known that the digital marketing world has grown steadily over the years, it is estimated that by the end of 2021, we will have seen a 17% spike in digital ad spending (Source: eMarketer). With such growth, comes more businesses looking to sell their products and in our industry, musicians looking to sell their music. DPG’s Founder and Partner, Andrea Young, and DPG Canada’s Managing Partner, Erin Kinghorn, sat down with Linda Lorence-Critelli of NYC³ (New York City Creative Community) earlier this year to discuss digital marketing, playlisting, and the significant impact they can have on an artist’s career.
In this webinar, Linda asks Andrea and Erin ALL of the questions — from general rules of thumb all the way down to the nitty gritty. They dive into topics including what steps to take prior to a new release and how to navigate the crazy world of playlisting. And while they acknowledge the many opportunities that marketing and playlisting can bring to artists and bands, it’s not as easy as it may seem. Andrea and Erin point out that because it can be so difficult for tracks to be heard due to the tens of thousands of new songs that are uploaded to streaming platforms every single day, it is absolutely essential for musicians to be consistent in developing their online presence on all DSPs, maintaining and growing their fan engagement, and keeping up with new releases. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint”, says Erin.
